Member states holding the presidency work together closely in groups of three, called 'trios'. The TRIO includes three member states that successively take over the Presidency of the Council of the EU. To ensure that the work and leadership during this eighteen-month period runs as smoothly as possible and the common political objectives of the EU are pursued. The Presidency TRIO, in cooperation with the other EU institutions, sets long-term objectives and develops a common eighteen-month work program and priorities. Based on this program, each of the three countries is preparing its own more detailed six-month program. The current trio is made up of the presidencies of France, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
