Flood Prevention
The Czech Republic was repeatedly struck by severe floods in the last two decades. The damage caused to the health of people and to property was immense. In order to limit the impact of floods, the “Flood Prevention Project” was approved in accordance with the document “Strategy for Protection Against Floods in the Czech Republic”.
The Project is focused mainly on the increase of flood protection in the most vulnerable areas of the Czech Republic, especially on the regulation of watercourses and the construction of new retention areas. The Project also includes the construction of system technical measures along watercourses, especially along significant watercourses in urban areas, the construction of measures for increasing retention in the landscape, i.e. measures for controlled flooding, dikes and water works with retention function, and supports increased safety of waterworks.
This Project has been implemented through the following grant Programmes:

"Flood Prevention Programme I" (2002–2007), total costs CZK 4,400 m;

"Flood Prevention Programme II" (2007–2014), total costs CZK 11,500 m;

"Flood Prevention Programme III" (20014–2019), estimated total costs CZK 5,200 m.
The new “Flood Prevention Programme IV” (2018–2024) with estimated total costs of CZK 5,400 m has started recently.
This project is implemented by state enterprises – River Board, s.e., Forests of the Czech Republic, and municipalities.
