Notification of Placing a Food Supplement on the Market
Pursuant to Section 3d, par. 1, subpar. b) of Act No. 110/1997 Coll., on Food and Tobacco Products, a food business operator who manufactures or places a food supplement on the Czech market is required to send a notification of this placing on the market to the Ministry of Agriculture prior to its first placing on the market, in the form of a Czech text of the label, including the mandatory information about the food supplement that will be indicated on the packaging or label.
This is an information obligation only, not a registration or approval process. The Ministry of Agriculture does not assess the safety, laboratory test results, composition, or labelling of the notified food supplement. The food business operator placing the product on the market is fully responsible for compliance with all legislative obligations, including safety and labelling requirements.
To fulfil the notification obligation for placing a food supplement on the market, the Ministry of Agriculture has established Systém pro oznamování potravin (SOP), through which food business operators can fulfil this notification obligation.
Benefits of using SOP:
- Simple and fast notification process.
- Overview and record of submitted food supplement notifications.
- Ability to download confirmation of compliance in Czech and English.
- Option to enter a foreign company registration number.
- Ability to delete a draft submission.
It is recommended to use only the SOP, as the Ministry of Agriculture plans to move to exclusive communication via SOP as part of its digitalization efforts.
Note: We recommend opening SOP in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. The SOP may not function properly in Internet Explorer
