Czech Agriculture Minister Jakub Šebesta to chair the Agriculture and Fisheries Council
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council, chaired by Minister Jakub Šebesta for the first time, discusses the Green Paper on Reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, adopts provisions and decisions regarding rural development in relation to the so-called Barroso economic recovery package and, first and foremost, adopts Conclusions on simplification – one of the Presidency priorities.
Minister Šebesta will also meet with representatives of the European Milk Board, with the Secretary-General of the Association of Non-Governmental Agricultural Organisations of the EU 27 COPA/COGECA, with representatives of the European Council of Young Farmers (CEJA) and other leading EU agricultural organisations.
At the request of France, the Agriculture Ministers will address the situation on the milk market and the pork market. Subsequently, they will focus on the problem of high profit margins in the food market chains, as requested by Poland, followed by a discussion of the request of Finland regarding compensation for damage on livestock caused by predatory animals. To conclude, the Presidency will publish the conclusions of the 17th meeting of the UN Commission on sustainable development.
