The National Programme on Conservation and Utilization of Plant, Animal and Microbial Genetic Resources Important for Food and Agriculture for the period 2018–2022
Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic published its strategy on the protection of agriculturally important genetic resources. The protection of these resources is ensured both by law and within the strategy entitled the National Programme on the Conservation and Utilization of Genetic Resources of Plants, Animals and Microorganisms Important for Food and Agriculture. The currently issued document is valid for the period 2018–2022.
The updated National Programme builds on previous twenty years of successful programmes for the conservation of genetic resources for food and agriculture, and in particular the preceding phase 2012–2017. In the previous periods, the National Programme primarily focused on evidence and conservation of genetic resources, identification and elimination of duplication and rationalizing of the work. The new strategy focuses on the growing need for the evaluation and characterization of genetic resources, and identification of particularly valuable genotypes, especially as donors of various traits of resistance.
